The Lord of the Church continues to provide for His people, and with thanksgiving and trust in His guidance, our congregation is beginning the process of calling an assistant pastor. As part of this process, a call committee will soon be formed to assist the congregation in prayerfully seeking the man God is preparing to serve among us.
In our Lutheran tradition, pastors are not hired like employees, but called by the Church through prayerful discernment. A call committee serves on behalf of the congregation to help carry out this important responsibility.
The committee gathers information, listens carefully to the needs of the congregation, consults with church leadership, and works with the district to receive pastoral candidates. Throughout the process, the call committee seeks to act faithfully, thoughtfully, and in reliance on God’s Word.
Calling an assistant pastor is an expression of gratitude for the blessings God has already given to our congregation. As ministry opportunities grow, an assistant pastor can help share the work of preaching, teaching, pastoral care, outreach, and service.
This call is not about replacing anyone, but about strengthening the congregation’s ability to proclaim the Gospel, care for members, and serve the surrounding community—now and into the future.
Above all, the calling of a pastor is a spiritual matter. The Scriptures remind us that Christ Himself gives pastors and teachers to His Church for the building up of the body.
For this reason, the entire congregation is invited to pray regularly for the call committee, for the men who may be considered, and for clarity and unity throughout the process. We trust that the Holy Spirit is already at work, guiding this effort according to God’s will.
In the coming weeks, information will be shared regarding the formation of the call committee and opportunities for congregational input. Members may be asked to submit feedback, share insights about congregational needs, or suggest qualities that would be helpful in an assistant pastor.
Those selected to serve on the committee will represent the congregation and are asked to approach their work with humility, confidentiality, and faithfulness.
The call process requires patience, prayer, and trust. While timelines can vary, we move forward with confidence that the Lord, who has faithfully sustained this congregation in the past, will continue to do so in the future.
We give thanks for God’s provision, ask His blessing on this next step, and look forward to seeing how He will use this call to further His work among us.
